It's the ropes and the reins, And the joy and the pain, And they call the thing rodeo

(Thanks to Garth Brooks for the title. I love that song!)

Wednesday night Paul and I took the kids to the Strawberry Days Rodeo. We got there early enough to watch Mutton' Bustin and stayed long enough to see the bull riding. It was the longest we've ever stayed. (When you're in your late 30's anything over three hours on bleachers is too long. Our backs were aching!) We had a lot of fun though. Here are some pictures from our evening.

There are a few reasons why the kids like the rodeo. They love watching the kids ride the sheep. It's always good for a laugh. They love getting strawberries and cream. The number one reason they want to go? The cash cow. Here they are below getting all lined up.

Out comes the cow and hundreds of kids chase the poor thing probably scaring it half to death.

This year the cow got away really quickly. (It went right back in where it had come out of)

This was quite possibly Emma's last year of eligibility for the cash cow. She was one of the tallest out there. She came back empty handed and broken hearted.

Andrew on the other hand snagged a buck. Way to go!

A dose of strawberries made everything okay again.

Finally it was time for the real fun to begin.

I'm still on the fence about my feelings toward rodeos. I think they can be fun but I sure hate seeing what some of those animals have to go through.

One thing I know for sure is I loved was seeing these babies. Aren't they beyond precious? Gorgeous! They made me happy.

And what post would be complete these days without some Hipsta prints?

Very cool photos! I've never been to a rodeo. I don't know if I could watch those guys get bucked off! Looks like great fun though :)

I don't know how I missed seeing these photos. You and the kids are adorable looking in you western clothes. That cash cow looks way fun. Sorry Emma didn't score any money. Great animal pictures, I wish I could have lived where I could have had a cow and horse.
