Mother's Day

Last year we didn't do much for Mother's Day. It was one of those things where I was like, it's stupid, I don't need anything. Then I got to church and heard about all the ladies getting breakfast in bed etc etc. This year I asked for some special treatment but I wanted to make it as easy for everyone as possible. I got my wish. I got breakfast in bed. Plain Chiobani greek yogurt with fresh strawberries and honey.

I wanted a big A card and I got it.

The kids also got me some chocolate and Paul got me a book from Emily Freeman called Becoming His.

I didn't want to have to fix dinner and I was craving this chicken garlic pizza from Papa Murphy's that I never get since I'm the only one that likes it. Sooo I asked for pizza for lunch and that's what I got. On paper plates so there were no dishes. It was magical. I hardly lifted a finger all day.

I've come to realize that with Paul if I know what I want I usually get it (if it's within reason of course) I just have to ask. Some would say there's no fun in having to ask but I personally think it's wonderful. I got exactly what I wanted, including a nap. It was a happy Mother's day.

Cinco de Mayo

This year we had Cinco de Mayo on seis de Mayo. I tried making refried beans for the very first time. I need more practice. They were fine, but not great. Too thick. Since then I have gotten better but not good enough for Paul. We had carne asada street tacos with pico de gallo, refried beans, spanish rice, chips, salsa, guacamole and a delicious limeaid drink. It's a lot of work but it all tasted SOOO good.

This is Andrew's all time, most favorite meal, in all of forever. That's why it looks like he's making out with his taco. Silly boy.

My Birthday Part Deux

Before my birthday my sweet BFF asked me what I wanted to do to celebrate. I wasn't sure. One of her suggestions was the Tulip Festival at Thanksgiving Point. I decided that that sounded lovely so off we went to tip toe through the tulips.

I'm so glad we went. The weather was amazing and the flowers were gorgeous. I don't know why I don't go more often. It was so refreshing to be in such beautiful surroundings.

She treated me to an amazing day. After the tulip festival we headed to the new outlets in Lehi where I used a birthday coupon to buy myself a new skirt. When we were done shopping we ate lunch at Johnny Rockets. It was sooo good! They even embarrassed me by singing the "short version" of Happy Birthday (They all squatted but the song was just as long!)  I felt very spoiled.

Way Back in May...

I had a birthday. I'm an now 38 years old. I'm pretty sure I'm okay with it. Not much I can do if I'm not though. I don't feel old so that's good.

The best birthday gift a mom can get is a night off from cooking dinner. I picked a newer restaurant that is down in Orem for my birthday meal. I was totally impressed with their customer service and the food was pretty good.

After dinner we headed home for cake and gifts.

I got several books, some money, a gift card so I can have some quilts quilted, chocolate and a .22 revolver.

My sweet friends brought me these cute gifts. The pretty green bottle had a truffle attached to it and below is a Lindt sea salt chocolate bar. Yum!

It was a good birthday and I really appreciated the thoughtfulness of my friends and family.

Good Golly I Love Him

On April 30th Paul and I celebrated 17 years of marriage. I can't believe it has been that long. It doesn't seem like it at all. Only a few more years and we've been together longer than we were apart. I can't wait for that.

My mom came and watched the kids while we went out to Carrabba's for dinner.

I'm so lucky and so in love with this man. I can't believe I was blessed with him and that we get to spend eternity together. Thank you for the last 17 and here's to many many many more!

Andrew Turned 12

Andrew turned 12 years old back in April. Of course there was drama. He begged and pleaded for Paul to take him to the skate park after their special birthday lunch together. He wanted to skateboard before heading back to school. He ended up taking a pretty bad fall. He landed flat on his back right on the concrete. He couldn't go back to school because he was in so much pain. I'm not sure how bad it really was but he seems pretty uncomfortable all afternoon.

That night he wanted to go up to Salt Lake for dinner at the Blue Iguana. We thought it was a great idea. I'm always up for a chili verde burrito and my parents wouldn't have to drive as far to see him and give him his gifts.

It was in the middle of the week so we didn't think we would need reservations. Boy were we wrong. There was some HUGE convention at the Salt Palace. Thousands of MLM people were ALL OVER Salt Lake City. We had to wait over an hour for our table. He was starving and very emotional. After we ate he finally felt a wee bit better. We went over to Leatherby's for ice cream and then headed home for cake and gift opening here at the house.

Trying to facetime with grandma and grandpa in Mongolia while we wait for a table.

Off to High School

Thursday May 30th was the last day of school. It was that morning that Emma decided for sure that she wasn't going to go to school. (They do a weird hour of school here where they don't take roll and most kids just go so they can meet up with friends and then loiter around town. It wasn't a big deal that she didn't go. It was a big deal that she decided so late that she wasn't going.) Had I known that she was skipping I would have taken her last day of school pictures the day before. But I didn't know. So I didn't take any pictures. And then she didn't go. And now I don't have any pictures of her last day of Junior High. I feel a little bitter about that. What I do have is a picture from the awards ceremony (that only a handful of moms went to. Oops) and some photos from her 9th grade Lagoon day that she took with her phone. Make do with what you've got!

Emma received a lot of awards. She received an academics award, attendance award, citizenship award all of which qualified her for the Viking on Board award (you need all three to be a Viking on Board) the gold scholar award for maintaining high honor roll all year, a certificate for winning Iron Chef with her team twice, skill certificates in both computer tech and foods plus she completed the 50 book challenge which got her another award. She worked really hard this year and had difficult classes. I was proud of her.

Lagoon Day!

I'm really proud of Emma and her dedication to her school work. She's so excited for next year but nervous too. I can't blame her. The high school is a big scary place!
