The fever that Andrew had right before my birthday lasted for forever! I think he had a fever off and on for over a week. He missed several days of school. We would think he was better but then it just kept coming back. After the fever went away, like really away, he got a hideous cough. He couldn't sleep. I couldn't sleep. It was a rough couple of weeks. Finally I took him to the doctor who told me he had a cold. He wouldn't take any cough medicine because it tasted bad. I wanted to hurt someone. A lot of time was spent in bed and on the couches. He and I did a lot of staring at each other during the early part of May.

Emma and I got cookies and frozen hot chocolate in American Fork while Andrew and Paul watched Avengers.

Last summer I got several quilts quilted. I finally got around to binding them in May.

The one on the quilt rack in the background is the last one I have to bind. Once this one is done I need to rob a bank so I can get my others quilted. I have at least four that need to go but I am saving all of my money for New York.

I am proud of myself for getting stronger. I mostly use the two pound weights (occasionally the 3's) but when I first started exercising the one pounds were all I could handle. (Barely handle) I've come a long way.

Thank goodness for those weights because I still have a major sweet tooth. For the record this isn't all mine. I need to go back to no sugar again. I am stuck at an 18 pound weight loss. I was hoping to be down 20 pounds by my birthday but that didn't happen. Is it any wonder why? I know what I need to do it's just doing it that's hard.

I wanted to do something with this jelly roll. It is the perfect color scheme for my winter decor. I put it out on the railing and waited for it to speak to me. It didn't say anything so for now it is stacked back up until I get some inspiration. 

I got done with my quilt assignment for my class early and was really wanting to quilt something so I dug out and old project using Bliss. Even the pile of scraps made me happy.

As I was laying it out I realized that I had once again not read the instructions properly so I had too many of one quilt block and I was short one of the other quilt blocks. Luckily I had a lot of Bliss stashed away so I could make an extra block. I'm happy to say this top is finished and just waiting for me to get some cash.

Emma finished her mini quilt for her sewing class at school. She got an A on the assignment. There were a ton of little bitty mini squares in this quilt. The black is not solid, it's all little squares. She did the appliquéing of the E all by herself as well as the quilting. She worked long and hard on this. She is so proud of it. I think I'm going to give her some of my good fabric to use over the summer. 

This picture cracks me up! Paul was getting burnt while cooking bacon. He had to make himself an armprin (name that TV show) so he wouldn't get splattered on. He was not a happy camper.

Some day he will realize it's much cheaper to just say, "You're feeling down? Tell me about it. I want to listen." For now I'm enjoying my I'm sorry I didn't listen bouquet.

Paper piecing! I did it and I didn't mind it. I only have one class left to attend in my hideous saturday sampler class. (I can't tell you how much I have hated being part of this class LOL!) I can't wait for it to be over. I can't wait to work on what I want to work on. I can't wait to see what the quilt is going to actually look like. I can't wait. I can't wait. I am so D.O.N.E. done. I will never do one of these again. Ever!

The Garden is In ~ May 19th

After the boys got home from their camp-out we got the soil and compost that we needed for our garden. Since we got a bit of a late start I bought plants for some of the things I normally start from seeds, like zucchini, yellow squash and peas. New to the garden this year is cantaloupe, cucumbers, spaghetti squash, eggplant and okra. I'm curious to see how we do. So far so good. Everything is growing and looking happy!

As part of Emma's personal progress she is helping with the garden so she can pass off her Faith value experience. She planted most of the seeds and has been doing a lot of the watering.

We planted three types of beans this year.

I wanted a lot of peas so even though we had four plants Emma and I planted three more rows of peas.

By May 31st most of the peas had come up. They were looking better than the plants I had bought.

One little bean popped up but you could tell more were on their way.

June 7th 

Look at the beans now. Something is eating the leaves. It happens each year and it doesn't seem to harm the "crop" so I leave it alone. I'm so excited for my first harvest!

Father & Sons Camp-out May 19th

Pretty much every year they announce a father and sons camp-out at church and every year Paul finds a reason not to go. I can't blame him. I hate tent camping. This year his attitude about the whole thing was different. He was gung-ho to go. I knew Andrew was at a good age to be away from momma so I didn't try to stop them. 

The weekend before Paul and the kids set up our tent to make sure it was still in good condition since we haven't used it for years. It was perfect! Paul got some new pads to sleep on so he tried those out as well. They seemed like they would do the job. The boys were set.

I wanted to have a mommy daughter date while the boys were gone but Emma was offered a babysitting job. Money was more important than mommy. Paul asked if we would all like to go out to dinner together before they left. Of course I wanted to! We went to Mama Chu's since it was at the mouth of the Provo canyon. It was right on the way to the campground Paul and Andrew would be going to.

They weren't serving dinner up there so Paul wanted to make sure he was good and full before he left.

I sent Andrew with my little point and shoot camera. I was so excited to hear he had taken a lot of pictures. When I put them on the computer I found tons of shots like this. Heads in pictures are so over rated, right? Sorry Trent. We would have loved to see your face. Oh well.

They had a great time. I guess it was freezing up there. They woke to ice/frost all over their tent. There were a lot of people and Andrew got along well with all the boys. From what we've heard they are going to try to host it at the same campground each year for a while. Paul said it was a great place so they are already looking forward to the next one.

Chickens!

Chickens are super trendy in our area right now. Several families in our neighborhood have jumped on the bandwagon. We really considered getting some but I'm not ready for the commitment yet. Paul said I could get some but they would be all my responsibility Eeek! I am still really thinking that I want some. Maybe next spring? I am eating a lot of eggs right now and would love to know where all those eggs are coming from. 

I am super excited that our next door neighbor took the plunge and got six chicks. I can live and learn through her. She has been super great about letting us play with her chickens. She's also teaching us a lot about raising them. I love these little fluff balls. They are so cute and interesting to watch.   

They have grown so fast. This is just four days later. Look how much they've changed.

I have a feeling I'm going to be taking a lot of chicken pictures over the next little while.
